About Lou Heckler
Lou Heckler is a Pittsburgh native who has been speaking professionally for almost 30 years. Lou grew up in Green Tree and went to Keystone Oaks High School before getting dual degrees from the University of North Carolina in journalism and radio-television.
Following almost 15 years in pubic and commercial television in North Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana, Lou started his own speaking business in March of 1980.
His resume includes:
- Nineteen years on the adjunct faculty of the University of Michigan’s Executive Education Center
- Three years as CareerTrack’s number-one-rated management trainer
- Two-and-a-half years in the US Army, serving as a speech instructor and course supervisor at the Defense Information School
Lou has spoken at nearly every NSA national meeting since 1987 and was
the host of NSA’s monthly audio series, “Voices of Experience,” in 2004-05.
He has been married over 40 years to another Pittsburgh native, Jonellen Heckler, and they have a son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters who live in Atlanta. Lou and Jonellen make Gainesville, Florida, their home.

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are held at LaRoche College, Zappala College Center, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15237.
Driving Directions From the West / Pittsburgh Airport: Take Rt. 60 S to 376 E, heading into Pittsburgh As you come through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and go across the Fort Pitt Bridge, follow the signs to I-279 N. Go to the right as you cross the Fort Duquesne Bridge. Continue on 279 for a few miles and take exit 4, staying to the left to merge onto McKnight Rd/US-19 Truck N. Travel 6.1 miles to Duncan Ave. on the right. After 0.5 mile, make a left on Babcock Blvd, and make an immediate right onto the campus. After You Make the Turn Into the Campus: Go up a winding road, make a right into the first parking lot you see on the campus, and enter the Zappala College Center. Someone will be there to guide you to the meeting room.
From the East: Take the PA Turnpike to the Pittsburgh Exit, and follow 376 E through the Squirrel Hill tunnel. Take the Boulevard of the Allies Exit and follow the signs to 579 N, which merges onto I-279. Continue on 279 for a few miles and take exit 4, staying to the left to merge onto McKnight Rd/US-19 Truck N. Travel 6.1 miles to Duncan Ave. on the right. After 0.5 mile, make a left on Babcock Blvd, and make an immediate right onto the campus. From the North: Take Truck US-Rt 19 S (McKnight Road) to Duncan Ave. Follow the directions above.
